As the military regime continues to bomb the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)-controlled town of Mogok in Mandalay Region, the remaining residents of Mogok are preparing to flee. Although some returned after the TNLA took control of Mogok, almost all are now preparing to leave. Only those who cannot afford to live financially remain. Previously, they had to live in Mogok, but after the military regime captured the strategically important Mogok-Thabek Kyin road, the airstrikes became more severe, forcing them to flee. In September alone, Mogok, which is not currently in conflict, was hit by more than 20 airstrikes, killing at least 30 residents. As the number of people fleeing has increased, the Mogok-Mandalay bus fare has risen to 500,000 kyats per person. The trip used to cost around 5,000 kyats for a motorbike. Now, we have to cross the Ayeyarwady River twice to get to Mandalay. Travel costs in war-torn areas are unheard of.
