Burmese migrants who illegally enter Thailand through the Thai-Myanmar border are being arrested by the hundreds almost every day these days. In the past two days alone, 251 Burmese workers who entered Thailand illegally have been arrested by Thai authorities.
The Thai government had previously announced that it would issue pink cards to undocumented migrant workers to work legally starting from October 15, but on October 16, it temporarily suspended the process, causing millions of baht in losses for Burmese workers. Many Burmese people who entered Thailand paid money in advance to brokers for the pink cards. On the other hand, many young people in Myanmar who want to avoid military service due to fear of Min Aung Hlaing have fled to the nearest Thailand. That is why the arrests are continuing. In the past, there were arrests, but only once every four or five days, once a week, once a month. Now, they are being arrested almost every day, not just in one place, but in many places.
Most Burmese citizens who entered Thailand through the border have been forced to pay tens of thousands of baht. If they are arrested in Thailand, they will lose money, and if they are deported back to the country, they will be prepared to be drafted into the military by a military commission. The situation of those arrested in Thailand is very dire.
