Finally, the UN Security Council has been able to pass a resolution on Myanmar.
- to immediately stop the violence of the military council;
- To immediately release political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi;
- To implement the 5 ASEAN Agreements
The UNSC was able to approve the decision with no objections. For that decision, China Russia and India remained neutral. This is the second historic decision in 74 years since the decision to approve Myanmar’s membership in the United Nations. Last year, at this time, the United Nations General Assembly passed a consensus resolution on the Myanmar issue. But this time it is more effective since it was decided by the Security Council. Almost two years after the arbitrary military coup in Myanmar, this is a definite move at the UN. Many Myanmar people’s lives are at stake for this move to happen. In fact, this is only an initial step. An arms embargo on the Military Council, which the Burmese people want, economic blockade, No Fly Zone, etc. have not yet arrived. When these factors become real, the military council will have a real impact. The journey has just begun. Will keep trying.
