The National Unity Government (NUG)
- On Monday morning, there was an online meeting for two hours between the NUG and Rakhine People’s Government led by General Tun Myat Naing, the Chair of the Union League of Arakan. Reportedly, they exchanged views on the current political situation in the country.
- On Monday, there was a meeting between the NUG Minister of Foreign Affairs and Myanmar people in the US at the Bethel Christian Academy in Maryland State. Reportedly, the Minister made a presentation about the current situation in Myanamar.
- Daw Zin Mar Aung, the NUG Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that it was necessary to put a stop to the military junta’s violence on the public in any way possible.
- In a meeting with the Myanmar people in the US, the NUG Minister of Foreign Affairs said that there were heavy battles between the junta armed forces and People’s Defence Forces (PDFs), and that it was necessary for PDF members to follow military provisions as much as possible.
- The NUG Minister of Foreign Affairs said that she presented about three NUG policies regarding humanitarian assistance for IDPs and the needy in Myanmar, to support teams in the US, ASEAN and the United Nations, and that they accepted them.
- According to the End of Dictatorship (EOD), they earned up to $4 million USD within 10 days from the sale of property confiscated by the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing on Inlya Road.
Revolutionary Activities
- In Paungte Township in Bago Region, a junta army patrol was attacked with mines by a PDF at about 3:30 pm Sunday.
- In Shan south, there was heavy fighting between the junta army and local PDFs near Saungneke Village between Pekone and Nyaungshwe Township at about 9:00 am on Sunday. Reportedly, about 6 junta soldiers, including an officer, died.
- According to the DRPA, a student from Pinlone Technological University dishonestly took away 200 lakh MMK, that had been donated for weapons, and a pistol so, he was blacklisted.
- On Monday, Muse PDF expressed their sorrow that Sai San Hla, the Secretary of CUSS and a young ethnic Shan man who had been forced by the junta army to be porters and lost lives in battles.
- In Mobye on the Shan-Karenni border, a local PDF inspected the shops in town on Sunday and confiscated products from the junta army and related businesses, which had been banned.
- In Chin State, the junta army arrested two young people who going into Mindat on Monday morning.
- In Longlone Township in Tanintharyi Region, local people conducted a march against the military dictatorship on Monday.
- In Tanintharyi Township, a combined force of PDFs attacked the junta army raiding Banlamon Village at about 8:00 am on Sunday. Reportedly, three junta soldiers were injured.
- In Tanintharyi Region, the news came out that Dawei prison staff had been provided with military training and equipped with arms. After that, there was a bomb explosion near the fence of the prison at about 3:00 pm on Sunday.
- Somewhere in Yangon, a combined rally of youth and students’ unions conducted an anti-junta movement with a banner for victory.
- In South Dagon Township, local guerrilla force blew up a sound bomb near the house belonging to the administrator of Ward (19) at 11:45 am Monday. After that, they also carried out another bomb explosion when the junta army arrived at the scene in a taxi.
- In Khayan Township, Kalar, allegedly a junta informer in Gwebinchaung Village, was shot dead at about 11:40 am Monday.
- In Shwepyitha Township, the Labour Liberated Force (LLF) conducted a bomb attack on the junta administration office in Ward (5) at about 5:00 am on Sunday.
- On the 432 nd day of protest, a combined rally from Salingyi North and Yinmabin East marched against the military dictatorship on Monday.
- In Shwebo Township, a rally of villagers marched for the NUG and against the military dictatorship on Monday.
- In Khin-U Township in Sagaing Region, a PDF attacked the junta armed forces setting fire to Inpart Village with drones and remote mines for the second time at about 1:30 pm on Monday. Reportedly, four junta soldiers might have died.
- In Layshi- Narga self-administered ethnic area, a local PDF conducted an explosion in the compound of the junta General Administration Department.
- In the east of Yinmabin, the junta army was attacked with mines at about 10:15 am on Sunday. Reportedly, five junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
- In Yinmabin Township, a military convoy was attacked with mines on the Yinmabin to Nyaungbingyi Road at 5:00 am on Sunday. Reportedly, 10 junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
- South of Kani, there was fighting between the junta army and a PDF near to Thintwin Village at about 10:00 am on Sunday. Reportedly, 10 junta soldiers died. As for PDF, they had no casualties.
- In Monywa, an alliance of PDFs warned U Than Htike Soe, who works at the junta immigration office, to stop his biased activities.
- In Yesagyo Township in Magwe Region, the junta army set fire to Moegwe Village on Monday morning.
- In Pakkoku Township, a local PDF announced on Monday that their members had been working at groundnut harvests to make money for weapons and bullets.
- In Tilin Township, an alliance of PDFs attacked the junta army camp near Yemyetni Village on Sunday morning. Reportedly, about 15 junta soldiers died.
- In Myaing Township, a combined force of PDFs conducted an attack with mortars on the junta army, which had set fire to Latyetma Village, at about 4:00 pm Sunday. Reportedly, seven junta soldiers died.
- In Myaing Township, the junta armed forces raided Latyetma Village on Saturday. According to local people, the dead bodies of those, who had been killed by the junta army, were found in the village.
- In Kyaukse Township in Mandalay Region, nine family members, including a child aged four, were arrested in Indie Village. Reportedly, there has been no contact with them for more than a month.
- Reportedly, a Canadian photographer published an album with photos of PDF members in Myanmar’s Spring Revolution and the money from the sale would go to the revolution fund. On Sunday, there was a photographic exhibition and fund-raising activity in Canada and it was joined by Myanmar people there.
- On Sunday, 24 youth organizations, including the Rakhine Students’ Union, expressed their condemnation of the Arakan Liberation Party- ALP for attending the junta’s peace talks.
- In an interview with the BBC, a CDM primary school headmaster said that the interim schools were getting ready to open for basic education on 1 June.
Ethnic Armed Organisations
- According to the Arakan Army (AA) on Sunday evening, there could be battles anytime due to tensions between them and the junta army so they warned the public to keep away from the junta armed forces.
- In Paletwa Township in Chin State, the Arakan Army (AA) shot at a military helicopter carrying rations for the junta army camp in Thandaung Village on Sunday noon.
- In Chin State, a troop of junta soldiers in front of a military convoy was attacked with a variety mines by local defence forces on Sunday. According to CDF Mindat, about 40 junta soldiers might have died.
- In Kanpetlet Township, the local CDF announced on Sunday that the road to Kyindway had been closed.
- In Kyaukmetaung Village in Tanintharyi Region, a combined force of the KNDO and PDF attacked a local police station on Saturday. Reportedly, two junta soldiers died and many others were injured.
The Military Council
- In Nay Pyi Taw, two bombs exploded at the time of a pro-peace and anti-foreign-interference rally on Monday morning.
- Reportedly, the military junta awarded the Myanmar Female Football Team 100,000 USD for reaching the semi-final level in the SEA Games. Similarly, the junta leader Min Aung Hlaing gave 3000 USD to U Thein Than Oo, the Wushu gold medallist at the SEA games.
- At the ASEAN Meeting of Health Ministers, the junta Minister of Health said that healthcare staff had been faced with attacks at healthcare centers and places of vaccination.
- According to the junta newspaper, the Chair of the junta Central Bank attended the ACU Directors’ Meeting in Pakistan on 12 and 13 May.
- On Sunday, the junta Minister of Electricity and Energy said that it was necessary to implement solar-power plants.
Summary on 17 May
- As well as having good international relations the NUG has also been on good terms with local forces as well. The public will have to see how the meeting between the NUG and AA will impact the current situation in the country. On the other hand, the military junta has very poor relations with the international community and they have only been allowed to attend unimportant international discussions.
- In Rakhine, there could be battles anytime due to tensions between the AA and the junta armed forces. Therefore, the AA warned Rakhine people to stay away from junta soldiers. Judging from a delay in response from the military junta, they might have few forces in the area.
- In Sagaing Region, due to many revolutionary activities, the junta armed forces faced great losses in their ground battles against PDFs. Consequently, they keep setting fire to villages and killing civilians.
