The issue of Burma will be a little more active in ASEAN this month. In the past, ASEAN foreign ministers will meet to discuss humanitarian assistance to Burma. To that end, Malaysia and the UN Special Envoy met with NUG. This is the first time they have met NUG in public. The military council strongly objected. This is an insignificant but significant development.
There will be a US-ASEAN summit in the middle of this month. The Burmese issue will definitely be there. The former ASEAN summit could also be a showcase for the United States. The ASEAN Special Representative will arrive later this month. We will have to wait and see what happens after that.
