Fighting intensified in southern Kalemyo Township, Sagaing Division, where the first armed uprising began. Military council troops have been advancing on Nat Chaung village, south of Kalemyo, in the past. Now the situation is worse than ever. Fighting continued for three days with the Kalemyo People’s Defense Forces, and the rebels set fire to the eastern village of about 900 houses along the Myittha River. In Nat Chaung village, the whole village was burnt down. Some refugees in the village were crossing the river when a bridge collapsed, killing at least ten people. The rebels also suffered heavy casualties. But the local people are losing a lot.
