The military stole valuables from the house that was confiscated from Aung Kyaw Moe, who is part of the 88 generation and on the run from the junta, on 4 May.

The house, in Bago Region’s Nyaunglebin Township, belonged to Aung Kyaw Moe and was originally sealed off by the military on 19 February. An arrest warrant has been issued for him and he has gone on the run with his family.

“The military troops came to the house and smashed the main door’s lock. They searched everything and took valuable items such as jewelry. Then they measured the area of the house with a measuring tape as if they were selling the house. I have a lot of projectors and TVs in my house, the current value [of items in my house] is about 50 million kyats,” said Aung Kyaw Moe from hiding.

“The Military council will have to take responsibility for arson attacks and the illegal seizure of people’s properties. When the Civilian Government returns to power, we will take them [illegally seized properties] back from the Military Junta and use them for the national development processes,” Aung Kyaw Moe added.

Not only are junta troops now regularly seizing the houses of the prominent leaders, celebrities and political activists, they are also confiscating the properties of civil servants, Civil Defence Movement (CDM) participants and businessmen who have supported the revolutionary movement against the regime.
