Domestic fuel prices have skyrocketed. Hundreds of liters have been rising daily, now reaching around 2,500 kyats per liter. This is arguably the highest price in history. The war in Ukraine has pushed up global crude oil prices, but should not at local. Worse, as the dollar rises against the price of kerosene.
Rising oil prices directly affect all classes of people, especially during power outages. Factories can no longer operate. Trucks and taxis can no longer be produced. Small businesses have stopped working because generators can no longer run. So commodity prices will go up again. In the political context, oil prices are likely to rise even higher. Even so, owning one is still beyond the reach of the average person.
