The 72-hour campaign appeared. It is to be silent (no protest) for 72 hours after the junta took power campaign. We deliver that information to each other through social media especially Facebook.
There are two considerations. Under the current law, a coup d’état lasts 72 hours. Within 72 hours, they need to submit to the UN why the coup and the president’s transfer of power. Otherwise, it is the state rebellion. Therefore, if there is no unrest within 72 hours, the military dictators will be in revolt. Some say the opposite. For the first 72 hours, nothing happened was the goal of the coup d’état, and three days later the coup was considered a success. After three days, the country was considered to have accepted it if there was no opposition, so it was deliberate propaganda.
In any case, we shared the 72-hour campaign on social media. There is no mobile internet connection, but Wi-Fi internet access. Private internet services are still available.
Banks reopened today. So I went out and got a small salary. We have to buy rice. I have to buy oil. Fear is rampant in the community.
Starting today, the Military group is launching a change strategy. Facebook pages of celebrities were occupied. People are worried about representatives to the Hluttaw (Parliament), who are detained in Nay Pyi Taw (Capital of Government). In the afternoon, they posted on Facebook that they were safe. Within nine hours of the coup, the military issued 15 statements. Not every statement was a source of comfort to the people. The word ‘election’ will be held within a year. They are liars. Will it be held with ingenuity until the USDP wins, the junta’s party (people who retire from the military and usually join the party). When did you win? They took the country unjustly by force of arms.
On February 2, 2021, we started the opposing campaign which was that Myanmar’s citizens oppose military coup with pots, pans, and car horns at 8 pm. We hit the pots, pan to be load at 8 pm every day. Every single house in the country except military group participate in this campaign.
The state-owned newspaper type has changed. There are become propaganda letters.
I realized that I could not openly express my dissatisfaction as I had before. Just like when we were young. I thought all information is right in the newspaper. When I was in middle school, I was familiar with the word “Computer”. The computer should be kept in a clean, dust-free room in a schoolroom so that no student can touch it. However, the headmaster’s relatives such as son, daughter, niece, nephew, and so on can have a chance to touch and operate it.
Military uniforms person sometimes come to school. About once or twice a year. They said they came to see the progress of the school. When those uniforms arrived, the whole school was in an uproar. We have to lay red carpets bought with school funds. we have to decorate flowers. We have to clear the garbage. We had to open a locked computer room and clean more the shiny dust. When they arrived, students from all over the school, dressed in their best white and green uniforms, stood at the entrance to the school and greeted him. When They arrived, they raised their hands. At that time, we need to speak up “Hello, Ba Ba (Sir). I wish you good health, may you be happy and healthy.” they smiled and nodded. They walked on the red carpet. The headmaster will greet them and treat them to the best food.
The teachers are by their side, ready to serve whatever they want. Then they went to the cleanest computer room in the whole school. There are students or teachers who are related to the principal. A teacher’s or some relatives of the school authorities’ child will hold a computer mouse and move it around. Someone will explain that this is the school’s multimedia room. Every school day, the students practice and we become computer literate. One of the teacher’s sons will recite memorized words (written in consultation with the teacher) so that the students at the school are not far from technology. The General (The military group) will be satisfied with a big smile. The cameraman will take a photo and publish it in the daily newspaper. The story is like that.
When I was young, I did not understand why we had to do such extra work, but my father did it. They are international to show that the country was developing. I did not understand much. People in uniform have always been seen as scary creatures in my mind.
Do I now have any hope of escaping such a life? It is uncertain whether there will be hope for my generation.
My whole family, including me, did not sleep well tonight. We did not vote for a military coup. But WHY?
