The military commission has announced that it will resume the Ayeyarwady Myitsone hydroelectric project, which has been opposed by the people throughout the country. The Myitsone project was started under President U Thein Sein, but was suspended due to public opposition. The project will be built with Chinese investment on the headwaters of the Ayeyarwady River, the lifeblood of Myanmar, and China will receive 90 percent of the electricity generated. If the Myitsone dam is built, the Ayeyarwady River’s ecosystems will be destroyed, and if the dam breaks, all the cities located downstream will be destroyed. Since it is of no benefit to Myanmar, scientists and the people are protesting. After more than a decade of suspension of the project, the military commission is trying to resume its implementation.
The military commission is doing everything it wants to do that is not beneficial to the people. All the orders and actions of the military commission seem to be causing only suffering to the people.
