The military commission has retaken the city of Thibaw, reopening the road from Mandalay to Lashio. Almost all the gains made in the second phase of Operation 1027 have been lost. The TLNA and allied forces have taken control of the Mandalay-Lashio highway and have reached Pyin Oo Lwin, but now they have lost the towns of Naung Cho, Kyauk Mae, and Thibaw on that highway. The plan to capture Pyin Oo Lwin and advance to Mandalay has become a pipe dream.
