The KIA is launching a new offensive against Bhamo, Kachin State. The KIA has captured many parts of Bhamo and is trying to capture the remaining military council camps and headquarters. The military council is also trying to divert the KIA’s attention from the Bhamo offensive by launching a large force in three lines against the jade mining area of Hpakant. However, it has been unsuccessful and casualties are high. Bhamo is currently the only city held by the rebel groups, and the fighting has been going on for more than five months.
