The earthquake caused extensive damage in Nay Pyi Taw, the seat of the military council. The presidential palace, parliament, military headquarters, and ministry buildings were also damaged. Ministries such as foreign affairs and home affairs have even been relocated to Yangon. The worst part is the staff housing. About ninety percent of the staff housing in Nay Pyi Taw has collapsed and is uninhabitable. Due to the destruction of ministry buildings and the collapse of staff housing, government departments under the military council are still not functioning properly.
