The rebels have captured the town of Intaw, on the border between Kachin State and Sagaing Region. The town is under control, but the rebels have been fighting for more than seven months, as they continue to hold out in a World War II Japanese bunker outside the town. The capture of Intaw, located on the Mandalay-Myitkyina highway, will make it difficult for the military council to transport supplies into Kachin State by land. If Htet Kyint is captured, it will open a communication route to northern Shan and Sagaing Region.
