Mandalay was hit by a major earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, forcing many residents to sleep on the streets, instead of in their homes. They are living in empty fields, around moats, in football fields, and in vacant lots. People in Yangon, which was not affected by the earthquake, are also suffering greatly due to power outages. The state power system has been damaged, causing power outages across most of the country.
The military council has not provided any relief and rescue services for three days. The people are struggling to save themselves. International relief teams from China, Singapore, India, and Russia have begun arriving. However, the Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay international airports have been closed due to the earthquake, so they are continuing their journey via Yangon. It has been about three days, so there is not much time left to rescue survivors from the rubble.
