After the military council shut down VPNs, the rebels under the military council are monitoring people’s phones to see if they have a VPN. Essentially, they’re checking out VPNs in major cities within their jurisdiction. In the city of Mandalay, the military group is blocking pedestrians and checking mobile phones to see if they are using a VPN. If you find a VPN on your phone, they charge from fifty thousand to two hundred thousand. This is a way to make money for them. In Yangon, it’s not as bad as Mandalay, but I’ve heard that some places have been checked for dirty money.
While checking the license on the road, even the VPN filter is already quite illegal. It’s too unfair to check phones like night guest audits. During the military council, no people are safe anymore.
