Regarding the current state of Burma’s border trade, six out of a total of 17 border trade posts have been occupied by ethnic armed groups (EAOs) and revolutionary forces, and the military council has lost nearly 60 percent of official border trade.

In the three years after the coup, the total value of Myanmar’s border trade was over 24 billion US dollars. Of this, the official trade value of the six border trading posts currently controlled by ethnic armed groups (EAOs) and revolutionary forces is over 14 billion US dollars. The trade value of the remaining six border trading posts, which are still controlled by the Military Council, is close to 10 billion US dollars.

During the three years after the coup, the value of Myanmar’s foreign trade totaled more than 94 billion US dollars. 69 billion US dollars was earned from maritime trade, accounting for more than 73 percent of total trade. Because of this, it can be said that the revolutionary forces have controlled nearly 16 percent of Myanmar’s foreign trade. Currently, the border trade route, which is stopped at Myawati, will be crossed from Ranaung in Thailand to Kawthaung in the southern tip of Myanmar, and the military council has granted permission for trade to Yangon via Kawthaung. With the loss of many border trading posts, the military council is trying to trade as much as possible.
