AA captured the police headquarters in Mrauk Oo District, while the 7 detainees were taken to the Khmara (378) battalion and the battalion’s headquarters company commander, Major Thein Thiet Soe, said that he was forced to order the killing of the 7 detainees on January 23.
In the testimony of Major Thein Thiet Soe, he said that while he was wounded in the battle and receiving medical treatment, he gave instructions to Lieutenant Than Aung and his team to clear the 7 prisoners. After that, he gave the key to the cell to Lieutenant Than Aung. Deputy Sergeant Than Aung asked where he would do it, and asked him to do it at the bomb shelter. After that, the team led by Deputy Sergeant Than Aung took 7 prisoners out of the cell, including Po La Pyae, blindfolded with a towel, handcuffed, and taken to the bottom of the hospital hill from the central guard road. Then all 7 prisoners were shot dead. After that shooting, Major Than Than Soe and District Police Commander Khin Maung Soe went to discuss the killing of 7 prisoners and went to Division Commander Min Min Tun.
