From February 2021 to August 31, 2023, during the military coup, 4,023 civilians were killed by the military group and its armed forces, according to the Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP). Therefore, in more than 2 and a half years after the coup d’état, military council troops and subordinate armed forces have been killing an average of more than 4 people per day. In addition, 449 children and 608 women were among the people killed. A total of 24,586 people were arrested. The above figures are the ones that AAPP has been able to collect and the information that is happening on the ground may be much higher.
The United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2669 in December 2022, which included a request for the immediate release of political prisoners, but the military coup council has not implemented it. Therefore, the Security Council needs to adopt and approve another resolution that includes information on the actions taken against the military group to save the lives of the people of Burma.
