The military council announced this evening that former member of the coup military council, Lt. Gen. Moe Myint Tun, was sentenced to 20 years in prison on charges of breach of oath and self-serving. Former Brigadier General Yan Naung Soe, assistant to Lt. Gen. Moe Myint Tun, has also been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the same accusation. The military council also said that the 2 of them were tried by a military court.
The jailed Lieutenant General Moe Myint Tun was speculated to be the successor of the military leader. The fact that the military leader took such action against the person he trusted the most shows that he no longer has anyone he can trust. There are speculations that this kind of drastic action is not just because of one result. It must be said that the internal cracks of the military leaders are gradually getting bigger.
