Myanmar is ranked as the worst country in the world for internet freedom, along with China, according to an international survey. Internet access has been restricted since the military took power, and the internet experience in the country remains poor. The main issues are slow internet speeds, slow connections, and long waits for VPN connections. In addition to internet access, data and telephone lines are also restricted, and phone data prices are skyrocketing.
There are many areas in the country where internet access has been cut off, and even in areas where there is internet access, people are not allowed to use it freely. Previously, the situation was so bad that anyone found with a VPN on their phone could be arrested. In addition, all four telecommunications operators have come under the control of the military junta, raising concerns about the security of people using the internet and telephone lines.
