The United States announced that it has imposed sanctions on four leaders of the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), a proxies of the military coup. BGF leader Saw Chit-taw was already sanctioned earlier. Several armed groups in Karen State are also involved in the Tigers’ activities.
What’s even more interesting is that the US government has formed the Scam Center Strike Force to crack down on scammers. The group is said to be working to arrest and prosecute scammers in Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia, protect financial systems, and help victims. It remains to be seen how the agency will crack down on scammers in Karen State.
