The KNU and its allies have captured the Thai-Burmese border town of Maw Taung in Tanintharyi Region. Before the town was captured, the KNU controlled the entire border trade route. The military commission tried to retake the route, but in the end, Maw Taung was also lost. This made it the first town in Lower Tanintharyi to be captured by the revolutionary forces.
If the Myawaddy border trade route is not lost, the KNU will be able to control almost all of the Thai border trade routes in Lower Myanmar. It would be a shame to lose the Myawaddy trade route so easily.
