There are reasons behind the sudden withdrawal of the KNU and its allies from the Asian Highway, a very important trade route in Karen State, both militarily and economically. Along the highway, there are both the military commission and the revolutionary forces, as well as Saw Chit-thu’s Border Guard Force (BGF). Since the military commission’s Aung Zeya campaign began, the BGF has been an organization that has been neutral on both sides. Now, the BGF is helping the military commission and guiding the military lines that are advancing up the Dawna Hills. It has also opened the way for the military lines that are advancing from Myawaddy. Therefore, the revolutionary alliances have been unable to continue their resistance and have abandoned the Asian Highway. In fact, the BGF has betrayed the Karen people.
