The talks between the Military Commission and the TNLA in Kunming, China, ended without a resolution. Interestingly, during the talks, the TLNA agreed to return the towns of Kyaukme and Thibaw to the Military Commission and to a ceasefire. The Military Commission did not accept this and demanded the return of almost all the towns occupied by the TLNA, which led to the talks breaking down. The TLNA has captured about 12 towns in northern Shan State, and the Military Commission wants to return 10 of them for free without firing a single shot, which is an injustice.
Since the talks broke down, the Military Commission will continue to bomb the towns controlled by the TLNA in northern Shan State. The residents of Taung Kyaukme have now fled the war.
