The military junta is collecting hundreds of thousands of kyats in tolls from trucks traveling along the old Yangon-Mandalay road. There are more than thirty military checkpoints on the old road that collect money. Since each checkpoint costs between ten and thirty thousand kyats, the total cost of a single route from Yangon to Mandalay is around four hundred thousand kyats. They are really demanding. Although they earn 55,000 kyats per ton for transporting goods, most of the trucks have temporarily stopped operating due to the high costs of tolls, fuel, and driver fees. If the flow of goods stops like this, the prices of goods will rise further.
