The military council responded by sending a representative to respond to the US’s proposed tariff hike. The annual trade value between Myanmar and the US is around 600 to 700 million US dollars. Myanmar’s main exports to the US are garments, bags, shoes, etc. If the US does impose tariffs, the first thing that will be affected will be the many families and workers in the garment industry. The military council does not have international recognition and does not have the support of the Burmese people, so while it is proclaiming that elections will be held despite the armed revolution, it is proud of its diplomatic relations with the US and the tariff hike, so the people, including garment workers, will suffer more.
