Months of fighting in Pale Township, Sagaing Region have forced local residents to flee their homes, leaving nearly 30,000 acres of farmland uncultivated. Tens of thousands of residents from more than 20 villages in Pale Township have been displaced since June 2 and are still unable to return home, in desperate need of food, shelter, medicine and personal hygiene items. If rice is not planted on time this year, it could be even more difficult to survive next year and there are concerns that food shortages will occur.
The revolutionary forces have captured the Kan Daung Police Station, but the fighting is not over as the rebels are resuming their offensive. The rebels are bombing not only Kant Daung Village but also the entire Pale Township day and night.
