The military council is bombing the entire region during the Thingyan festival. A bomb was dropped on the Kyet Khat village monastery in Depayin Township, Sagaing Region, during a religious ceremony, killing five people, including three monks, and injuring several others. Similarly, in Sagaing Region, Kaw Lin, Wan Tho, Kani, In Taw, and Arah Taw In Mandalay Region, villages in Tha Beik Kyin, Sint Ku, and Mattara Myo areas were bombed daily with heavy bombs. The people are unable to enjoy the essence of the Thingyan festival during this time. Let alone other things, they cannot even think about throwing water in their mouths, and they live in fear of the military regime’s aerial bombings day and night. The military regime, which has declared a temporary ceasefire due to the earthquake, has not stopped bombing the Anganwadi region from the air. During the Thingyan festival, people live in fear, looking up at the sky, wondering when the planes will arrive. They prepare to run to the bomb shelters as soon as they hear the sound of planes. They cannot observe the fast properly during the Thingyan festival. They do not even dare to be in public because the planes are bombing the monasteries.

Donate at the right time, enjoy at the right time, observe the fast properly. The honest Anganwadi people cannot be happy during the Thingyan festival. They cannot make donations. Instead of peaceful monasteries to observe the fast, there are only destroyed temples. They do not have houses to cook alms. They cannot wear nice clothes and go out to play. The military regime’s aerial bombardment has destroyed everything. Instead of rebuilding their homes, they are struggling to survive with just one piece of clothing. The people’s New Year’s prayers are no longer anything other than for the rapid eradication of the military regime.
