The world is changing with the times. Less than a hundred days after Donald Trump became president of the United States, there have been many upheavals. Trade tariffs have been raised. International aid programs have been canceled. European countries have raised eyebrows because Donald Trump is siding with Russia in the Ukraine issue. Europe is preparing to expand its military.
So far, the changing world has not seen any positive effects on Myanmar. Donald Trump’s rapprochement with Putin is likely to cause more harm than good. Other democracies are also becoming less interested in Myanmar’s democracy as they are trying to protect their own democracy from threats. In fact, democracy in the world is gradually declining and authoritarianism is gaining ground.
