The two Chin revolutionary forces, the Chinland Council and the Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC), have jointly announced an agreement to merge the two councils and call them the Chin National Council. Both sides agreed to merge into a new council, recognizing that there should be no two councils for the people of Chin State. They also agreed to form a Chin National Constitution Drafting Committee to ensure the early emergence of the Chin National Council.
The two Chin revolutionary forces met in the Indian state of Mizoram last week, according to the Mizoram Chief Minister. The two groups, which are divided in Chin State, have been trying to unite for a long time. In the meantime, there have been clashes on the ground. Now, an initial agreement has been reached.
The main issue to be discussed for the unification is the alliance with the Arakan Army (AA). Currently, the Chin New Alliance is allied with the AA and is cooperating in the battles to seize towns in Chin State. The other group does not like this. If they can negotiate an alliance with the AA, unification can be successful.
