The Thai side has suddenly cut off electricity to Myawaddy and its surrounding areas, where the Kyar Pyant gangs are located. The Thai Prime Minister ordered the cuts after the military council accused the gangs of operating in the area of being supplied with electricity by Thailand. In addition, the Thai Prime Minister was in China to meet with the Chinese president. The power cut was made in five places along the Thai-Myanmar border, including the eastern border town of Tachileik. Tachileik is said to have been supplied with electricity from Laos.
The tightening of power has begun after China said it would crack down on Kyat Pyant businesses that are harassing them along the Thai-Myanmar border with Operation Zin Yaw. Cutting off electricity alone will not stop the businesses. These businesses have been operating with generators and solar systems since the beginning. The military council is still pretending not to know about the matter.
