Today marks the fourth anniversary of the military’s violent seizure of power. In these four years, as a citizen, I have not been able to enjoy a single day. The country’s political, economic, and social aspects have regressed by ten to thirty years each year.
Since the coup, the military council has been extending its term every six months, so there has been no political progress. They have been saying that elections will be held since 2023. Now, even though 2025 has arrived, it does not seem like they will be able to hold elections. No one is interested in doing so. The military council is continuing to extend its term to maintain its power.
The economy is almost completely destroyed. Almost all foreign investment has left. Domestic businesses are struggling to survive. All imports have been banned, causing prices to skyrocket. Prices have increased by 3 to 6 times compared to before the coup. The military council is making it difficult for cronies to even run small grocery stores in the neighborhood.
Socially, the people are suffering from skyrocketing food prices, severe electricity shortages, and the military service law. However, the suffering of the millions of people who have fled their homes is even worse because the military council is burning down villages in the countryside. The country is sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss every year due to Min Aung Hlaing’s power mania.
