The fighting in Bhamo, Kachin State, continues to intensify. KIA troops have entered the city and are taking control. The military council is resisting with air support.
Meanwhile, KIA leaders have left for talks at the invitation of China. It is not known what issues will be discussed. It is likely that the main topics of discussion will be to stop fighting in Kachin State, including the battle for Bhamo, reopen border gates, and mineral resources. I think China’s influence on the KIA is limited, so I don’t think there is much to worry about.
