The KIA has today fully captured the only remaining border trading post in KIA-controlled territory in Kachin State, Kanpaik Tsing. After launching an attack on the town early in the morning, it was captured by the evening. The military council troops stationed in the town fled to China. The KIA could have easily captured the town before, but China has been pressuring it not to. Now, despite Chinese pressure, it has captured Kanpaik Tsing, showing that the KIA is not paying attention to Chinese pressure.
The town is the 88th town that the revolutionary forces have captured. Since the fighting in northern Shan State has slowed down since early October, the KIA has been able to capture towns one by one. In addition, one town each from Ann, Taunggyi and Maungdaw in Rakhine State is expected to be liberated this month.
