Southern Shan State, the death toll has risen to around 100 after floods swept along the Kalaw River, inundating homes and hospitals. Kalaw is a small resort town in the mountains, and there are many casualties due to floods and landslides. Even though they had been informed in advance that the flood would happen, they refused to evacuate, resulting in a large number of deaths. In the floods in central Myanmar, even the Yangon-Mandalay expressway has overflowed. The expressway out of Mandalay was temporarily closed due to flooding. The old Yangon-Mandalay road is now impassable because the bridges are broken. If those highways are blocked, the flow of goods may stop.
