After the fighting intensified in North Shan and Mandalay, the towns in those areas were forced to flee the war in droves. In Kyaukme town, nearly 30 people have died due to the fighting, and charity organizations are collecting and burying the bodies. As the main roads are closed, the people fleeing the war are forced to travel through forest roads. Those roads are blocked by people and cars. Most of them are heading towards Mandalay to avoid the war.
Today, the fighting has reached the town of Momeit, on the border between North Shan and Kachin. The city was attacked by KIA last February but failed. Now the revolutionary groups are trying to retake it.
