In the market, the price of palm oil, which is mainly bought and used by the basic people, has increased and there is a shortage. In the past, the military councils used to sell food and oil in proportion to the district administrators, but now they don’t sell it anymore. There are no cars sold in the neighborhood at the price set by the military council. In the market, there are also too many customers queuing up at shops that sell few amount per house at the price set by the military council, and it is difficult to buy palm oil. There are already many people queuing up at those shops since early in the morning. I had to stand in line for over an hour to buy one. I’m also running out of oil that will be my turn.
Due to the rare shortage of palm oil, some tea shops in Yangon have already stopped selling products that are fried with palm oil, such as Eikyaw Kwe, Smusa, and Plata.
The basic wholesale reference price of palm oil is set at 5,365 kyats per viss by the Military Council, but the external market price is 13,000 kyats per viss, so there is a difference of more than 2 times.
