Although sad losses are being experienced in the central highlands of Burma, the ethnic areas and the upper part of Sagaing region are continuing to succeed in the city capture battles. Revolutionary groups may have captured a new town near the Indian border town of Tamu in upper Sagaing region. The town of Khampa near that town has been occupied since last year, and because of this occupation, the military council troops in that area are left with only a patch on Tamu town.
In Kachin State, after the KIA captured the towns of Sinbo and Suamprabom, they surrounded the town of Van Maw on the banks of the Irrawaddy River. In addition, they are continuing their offensive to gain Momak and Mansi. At least four towns and nearly 100 military council camps have been captured in Kachin State. It seems that the KIA’s offensive has calmed down, but it is still advancing slowly and steadily.
