The KNU has taken control of Phapon in northern Karen State. Phapon is a township in the KNU 5th Brigade’s active area. The 5th Brigade is a brigade that has been constantly fighting since the Ley Military Council military coup. Phapon city has been blocked since the time when the war did not increase in the whole country. For a long time, the mechanism of the military council in Phapon City has ceased to function. During this time, KNU attacked the military camps around the city and managed to control the city. But the battle is not over yet. The troops of the military council in Phapon city have retreated from the city and are joining forces at the military strategic hill in the south of the city. Like the city of Suamprabom in Kachin State, if KNU can capture the strategic hill near Phapon, it will be able to control the city completely. The strategy of the KNU in the south is not to attack the military council camps with large forces like the northern EAOs, but to take some time and use the blockade cutting strategy.
