Neighboring Thailand has officially announced that it will accept Burmese refugees if they come to their country. This is the first time the Thai government has made such a statement during the Spring Revolution. The fighting on the Thai-Myanmar side of the border is still not very intense, but Thailand’s preparation will help the revolution.
On the other hand, the military council has announced that it will accept deserters and unauthorized absences from the army. This shows that the military council is weak. It’s a sense of wanting to gather strength from where it can be found. Unauthorized deserters can be sent to the front line without having to undergo additional military training. But I don’t think anyone will return to the army on their own accord. At this point, they will realize that going back to the army is going to the road of death. In the history of the highly disciplined military, I have never heard of deserters being accepted back. They are already re-shaping their history to replenish their strength, which is being eroded by time.
