The KNU announced that the coup military council had lost 62 military bases since the coup by mid-2023 due to military operations by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNU/KNLA) and its allies. There are 17 camps in That Thong district that were abandoned by the military council. The Military Council Army lost the main military bases along the Thanlwin River such as 6 in Taungnu, 13 out of Nyaung Lay Bin, 1 in Tanintharyi, 21 in Phyarpon and so on. This means that the KNU can have full control along the banks of the Than Lwin River. Also, by capturing these camps, the KNU gained more control over the border with Thailand. Just last week, the camp along the water border with Thailand was occupied by KNU and joint forces. Although the military council was unable to recover the lost territories, it is known that more than 600,000 people fled the KNU territory due to their airstrikes.
