Fighting between EAO groups and military council troops in northern Burma has resumed this month. After the talks between the military council and the three northern armed groups broke down following China’s intervention in early June, the military council’s offensives have resumed in the area. Fighting has been happening sporadically in both the TLNA and MDAA areas, and there have been no major battles yet. But if the military continues to attack, there will be big battles. In the north, except for the Kachin KIA group, the rest of the groups did not attack the military council due to pressure from China, but now the military council troops have returned to attack.
In Kachin State, some top officials, including the commander of the military’s Northern Division, who are trying to gain control of the area around Laiza, are being arrested and examined in Naypyitaw. They are being investigated because it is related to KIA. Therefore, we don’t know if the army’s major offensive in Kachin State has not started yet. If they attack KIA at this time, the army will be digging its own grave.
