The military council arrested those who led demands for wage increases at 2 garment factories in Hlaing Tharyar and Shwe Pythar, Yangon, for inciting sedition. 7 labor leaders and 3 labor affairs assistants total 10 people. The military council accused those arrested of inciting protests at factories.
After the military coup, labor rights were lost in Burma. Especially the workers in the industrial zone. Taking advantage of not being able to claim labor rights, employers suppress wages. If they ask for a salary increase because they can’t take it, the military council does not take the side of the workers and arrests them like this. The workers in Yangon’s industrial zones are really downtrodden.
