It is known that among the assets seized from the arms broker U Tun Min Lat, who was arrested by the Thai government for drug dealing, were the assets of military leader Min Aung Hlaing’s son, Aung Pyi Sone, and daughter Khin Thiri Thet Mon. Among the assets of the Burmese military are a luxury four-bedroom condominium owned by U Aung Pyae Sone at Belle Grand Rama 9 in downtown Bangkok, and two bank books of Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) opened in the name of Daw Khin Thiri Thet Mon. Looking at this process, we see that Burmese military leaders and their family members are allowed to use Thai banks to stash illegal money from their corruption.
The military leader’s children are involved in drug dealing, no wonder they are involved with money laundering cronies. Myanmar’s military has been deeply involved in the drug trade for decades. Burmese military leaders and their children profit from their ties to drug lords. Military leaders and crony businessmen are local drug dealers. Those who launder money they are connected like a network with the arms dealers. They all work together like a big criminal gang. Now, the discovery of the warlord’s children’s possessions by a drug-dealing crony is the best evidence.
Although there is evidence that Min Aung Hlaing’s children’s assets are linked to U Tun Min Lat, their assets have not yet been confiscated by the Thai authorities. It is disappointing that the Thai government accepts and protects their property. The Thai government should carefully investigate how the military leader’s children are involved in this case. Appropriate action should be taken.
