The military council has invited ethnic armed groups to hold peace talks on Union Day, which falls on February 12. Both the parties that signed the ceasefire agreement and those that did not. Most are unlikely to attend, including groups from areas currently fighting on the ground. Major groups such as the KIA and the KNU have made it clear that they do not trust the invitation of the military council, and neither have the Northern Alliance MNDAA.TLNA.AA. Participants will be small groups. So that discussion will be a sham.
