Earlier this month, I heard that the PDFs in Kayah State, which had been the scene of heavy fighting, had been suspended due to a lack of ammunition. Troops in the area are more armed than in other areas and can even threaten the capital, Loikaw. However, due to lack of funds, the bullet problem is increasing. While the rebels used ammunition in large numbers in battle, PDFs cost 5,000 kyat per cartridge. As the confrontation escalates, the problem will grow across the country. This is something that NUG needs to be prepared for.
Two cities in Kayah, Loikaw and Dimoso, were devastated and about two-thirds of the state’s population was displaced. I wish the former peaceful state a speedy recovery.
