Clashes were fierce in the province of A Yar Taw at Sagaing, which had been declared military administrative areas, and rebels began burning the villages with about eighty troops. Clashes with troops killed more than 30 rebels, resulting in nearly 300 troops being air-conditioned and reinforced by helicopters.
Nearly 50 civilians in the villages were arrested and not released. Civilian casualties were reported by the military, but it is not yet known exactly.
