In Karen State, the military commission is trying to completely control the area around Myawaddy, including the new town of Lay Kay Kaw. Currently, there are about 1,200 troops on the offensive, and daily clashes with KNU affiliates are fierce. The military has also recaptured the Swe Taw hill, which dominates Lay Kay Kaw. The revolutionary affiliates had to take that hill with difficulty. Now they have easily given it up. The Asian Highway is also controlled by the military commission, but it has not yet been opened, so border trade with Thailand is still suspended.
